And Then There Was Annie

Last time I talked to you, it was just me and Mom and Woody. Woody is really old, I might have mentioned that, and he really doesn’t care about anything but food and sleeping and sitting on Mom’s lap. As long as I don’t step on him or run into him we get along great. But then everything changed.

We got in the car the other day and right away I knew that it wasn’t going to be a trip to the park. For one thing, a bunch of our stuff was in the back. We spent the entire day in the car. Woody says we went on something called a vacation. I might have dozed off for a while. It was all worth it when we stopped at Kyle’s house. He’s the one with a fuzzy face. It was very exciting to see him and my dad, Henry. A while back Kyle adopted Annie. She’s my sister. Her first home didn’t work out, which is sad. We had a lot to teach her about being an Aussie. She’s OK now. Anyway, we weren’t that happy to see each other at first but we remembered how much fun wrestling and chasing each other was.

Kyle also has a cat named Arlo. He’s even older than Woody. I will never say Woody is grouchy ever, ever again. I had barely got inside the door and Arlo slapped my nose. It really hurt and I lost a lot of blood. I didn’t do anything to him. I was just saying long time no see.

Anyway, we had fun for a couple of days.

Woody told me the vacation part was over when Mom started packing our stuff. Everything was going fine but then Arlo’s stuff got loaded in the car. Then when it was time to load up, Mom told Annie to mount up. And then Mom put this carrier in the car which turned out to have Arlo in it. Even Woody was less than pleased. I said to Mom, “WTH is going on?” And then I got in trouble for not being nice. Pretty soon Mom drove away and Arlo and Annie were still in the car.

Mom told me and Woody that Kyle has a new job and Annie and Arlo dodn’t like it. Kyle wanted them to have more attention. Annie told me that she wasn’t getting enough exercise and that is never good for Aussies. It can lead to very bad behavior even if we know better. So Mom explained that for a while at least Annie and Arlo are going to be part of our family.

I’m getting used to the change. It is nice to have a big dog to play with. The little dogs that live in Sun Lakes try to play with me, especially Teddy. But I have to be careful when we play. Little dogs are really sensitive and get their feelings hurt easy. Annie likes balls almost as much as I do.

There are some benefits to having a cat around. Mom says we can’t talk about it because it’s too gross for the blog. Arlo spends a lot of time hiding under the bed. I’ve learned just how far he can reach with those switch blades on his paws. Teddy hasn’t.

We got to go on a hike the other day. It was awesome. The dead elk is still right where I left it. I showed Annie. We played in the water and ran around chasing each other. I guess things are going to be OK. I was pretty jealous for a while but Mom still loves me. And don’t worry, Annie is not going to have a blog. Mom says that’s all me and it’s hard enough to keep up with one blog.

I’ve got lots of stories to tell you but important stuff keeps happening. I’ll be back next week. Hopefully Mom will let me tell you more about that elk. In the mean time, I hope you all have a bone to chew on and a bowl full of water to drink.

Moses, I thought your mom tripped and hurt her knee on the hike. I hope you weren’t involved since you didn’t say anything about it.

Gee,thanks for bringing that up, Great Uncle Bud. Mom hurt her knee on a different hike. I might have knocked her down. I don’t want to talk about it. This hike was in Payson. It’s my favorite because of the dead elk.

Thanks, Dana. Niceness is kind of Mom’s thing. She even has a t-shirt that says to be kind. I think it’s weird to be as nice as she is, but she is the boss. So I’m as nice as I can be.

Moses, I hope you and Annie have a great time together! She’s family & you two will become best buddies in no time. And be nice to Arlo, too! He’s older & a cat ( which explains lots🤪) but he needs your love & friendship while he adjusts to his new home.

Hi Vicki. I’m so glad that someone finally gets the cat thing! Mom says you know fuzzy face Kyle from way back. Don’t worry about feeling old. It’s only natural when you’re, well, old.
